Covid-19 Update: Nigeria’s Total Cases Now Over 25,000, Government Orders Another 4 Weeks Lockdown

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed additional 566 cases of Covid-19 bringing the total cases to 25133.

The center announced this in its daily update late yesterday.

It said that in the last 24 hours eight deaths relating to coronavirus complications were recorded in the country. He added that the total death toll is now 573.

NCDC also said that till date, 25133 cases have been confirmed, 9402 cases have been discharged.

The 566 new cases are reported from 20 states- Lagos (166), Oyo (66), Delta (53), Ebonyi (43), Plateau (34), Ondo (32), FCT (26), Ogun (25), Edo (24), Imo (15), Bayelsa (13), Benue (12), Gombe (11), Kano (11), Kaduna (11), Osun ( 8 ), Nasarawa (7), Borno (5), Katsina (2), Anambra (2).

Meanwhile, Covid-19 Presidential Task Force in its latest development said the current nationwide curfew still remain enforced till July 27 despite lifting ban on interstate movement.

Covid-19 Update: Nigeria Confirms 779 New Cases As Total Jumps 24,077

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed 779 new cases of Covid-19 bringing the total infections to 24,077

According to NCDC via its website said that the new cases were recorded in 22 states and added that 4 deaths were recorded in the last two four hours.

The center also said that no new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

Nigeria till date has discharged 8625 cases and 558 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Of the 779 new cases reported Lagos has 285 cases, Rivers has 60, FCT 60, as well as Edo 60.

Enugu has 56, Delta 47, Ebonyi 42, Oyo 41, Kaduna 19, Ogun 18, Ondo 16, Imo 12, Sokoto 11, Borno 9, Nasarawa 8, Abia 5, Gombe 5, Kebbi 5, Kano 4, Yobe 3, Ekiti 3, Osun 2.

114-Year-Old Ethiopian Monk Beats Coronavirus

An Ethiopian Orthodox Christian monk who is over 100 years old has been reported to have recovered from Coronavirus.

The centenarian, whose real age is not known because of lack of birth certificate but believed to be above 100 years said while he was admitted into the hospital he was praying for his health and for the whole country to be healthy again. He added that after the recovery, he is a now being looked after at home by his grandson.

Dr. Hiluf Abate who treated him explained how he was diagnosed of Covid-19 saying that Aba Tilahun tested positive for the virus when a random screening process took place in his neighbourhood in the capital, Addis Ababa, and was admitted to hospital before the symptoms showed.

The medical personnel said Aba spent two weeks on bed before he could recovered from the virus.

Although the hospital cannot confirm that its patient is 114 years old as claimed by the family, the medical team says that he is definitely older than 100 and estimates that he is 109.

The old man is said to have witnessed the Italian occupation between 1935 and 1941, the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie in 1974, the collapse of the Marxist Derg regime in 1991, and now he has survived Covid-19.

His 24-year-old grandson, Binyam Lulseged Tilahun added that for years he has lived a simple life as a monk; “Aba” is a title meaning “Father”. But when he was younger he worked as an electrician, house painter, and general handyman.


Covid-19 Update: Nigeria Records 594 New Cases

More 594 new cases of Coronavirus has been recorded in Nigeria bringing the total to 22,612.

According to a breakdown by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), 159 of the new cases were recorded in Lagos, Delta-106, Ondo-44, FCT-34, Edo-34, Oyo-33, Kaduna-33, Enugu-28, Katsina-25, Imo-22, Adamawa-15, Ogun-12, Osun-11, Abia-8, Rivers-6, Nasarawa-5, Bauchi-5, Niger-5, Kebbi-4, Ekiti-3, Plateau-1, Taraba-1.

In total, Nigeria has now recorded 22,614 cases of COVID-19.

Till date 7,822 patients have been discharged from various Isolation centers across the country, while 549 deaths have been recorded.

Covid-19 Update: 452 New Cases Confirm In Nigeria As Total Rise Above 20,000

452 new cases of coronavirus has been confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) bringing the total infections to 21,731.

The NCDC announced this via its official website while giving update of the pandemic in the country.

It reports that there are now 21,371 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria with 7338 discharged and 533 deaths.

Lagos state, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria topped the number of confirmed cases with 209 new cases in the last 24 hours.

Oyo state recorded 67 new cases, Delta reported 37 new cases while Ogun, Federal Capital Territory and Abia recorded 36, 22 and 20 new cases respectively.

Other states are Enugu-16, Bauchi-15, Kaduna-8, Ondo-8, Osun-7, Imo-3, Benue-3 and Borno-1.
