“Buhari Will close the gap between the rich and the poor” – Aisha Buhari

Mrs. Aisha Buhari, Wife of the President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, has reassured Nigerians that the President will use his second term to consolidate his previous campaign promises of securing the nation, growing the economy and fighting corruption.

She promised that the president would alleviate poverty by closing the gap between the rich and the poor.

Mrs Aisha said this on Saturday during a dinner organized by her at the State House Conference Center in Abuja, to celebrate the president’s victory.

She also thanked the women and youths for their support throughout the election period.

“I wish I can invite all the 15 million Nigerians that voted for Mr President to this dinner, but no place can accommodate you all. So, let me say thank you and assure you that you made the right choice,” she was quoted as saying in a statement signed by her spokesperson, Suleiman Haruna.

“Specifically, I wish to express my appreciation to the women and youth presidential campaign team that I initiated to complement the efforts of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

“As you all know by now, the aim of setting up the team was to get women and youth, who form the majority of the electorate, involved in all the campaign activities across the country,” she said.

Also according to the statement, the President had vowed not to betray the confidence of Nigerians, adding that his victory was a sign that Nigerians were satisfied with the change that his government had embarked upon.

The President also promised to use the next four years to conclude what he had started while explaining that it had taken a long time to reposition the country back to its due course because of the level of abuse done by previous administrations.

He also thanked the women and youths for their role during the campaigns and the election proper and therefore, promised to engage them more in the second tenure.

Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declares that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo is a worse dictator than Sani Abacha, ex-military head of state.

He made the statement in response to an allegation by the ex-president that the President Buhari’s administration was taking Nigeria back to the dark days of General Sani Abacha when institutions of State was used to crack down on opponents of the rulling regime.

Obasanjo on responding to the unconstitutional removal of the Chief Justice of the Federation (CJN) Just Onoghen, pointed: “Today, another Abacha Era is here. The security institutions are being misused to fight all critics and opponents of Buhari and to derail our fledgling democracy”.

However, on reaction to Obasanjo’s comment, Oshiomhole, In a Channel Tv programme disagreed:

“Let’s face it, Obasanjo can’t look me in the eyes and say those things. He is a worse dictator, he was worse than Abacha,” Oshiomhole said.

“How many people disappeared under Abacha’s watch compared to the number of Nigerians that disappeared under Obasanjo’s watch including his own attorney general who didn’t get justice. He is not a fit and proper person.

“Don’t talk about Obasanjo, let’s face it. The problem I have is that in Nigeria, Obasanjo seems to have his cake and have it. He cannot talk about morality. Nigeria’s democracy cannot be stable if the rules are only made for the poor.”
