Rochas Yet To Release Funds For My Inauguration’ Ihedioha

Emeka Ihedioha, governor-elect of Imo state, has said that Rochas Okorocha, the incumbent governor of the state, has not released money for his swearing in on May 29 .

In a statement by Ray Emeana, secretary of his inauguration and handover committee, the governor-elect said Okorocha has refused to finance the inauguration activities despite agreeing to a “common resolution” to work together.

Ihedioha denied the rumour that Okorocha had released N150m to his inauguration and handover committee.

He, however, said arrangements were in top gear to deliver a “world-class inauguration” to the people of the state come May 29.

“Governor Rochas Okorocha has not released any money to the Emeka Ihedioha Inauguration Planning And Handover Committee,” the statement read.

“For the avoidance of doubts, Governor Rochas Okorocha and his outgoing government have not released any money to the Inauguration Planning and Handover Committee.

“The committee has not requested for any money either. Rather, the joint committee made up of the 31–member Ihediohia team and the 21–member Rochas Okorocha team met and adopted common resolutions on how best to proceed with the inauguration activities.

“Rochas Okorocha has since abandoned the mutual resolutions and proceeded with his ‘Internet-based Commissioning of Internet Sited Projects’.

“Conscious of the importance Imo people attach to the May 29, 2019 handover date, the Ihedioha/Irona inauguration committee has proceeded with arrangements to deliver a world-class inauguration to Imo people come May 29, 2019.

“Arrangements to ensure this delivery include such activities such as providing clean environments within and around event venues including the Dan Anyiam and Grass Hoppers Handball stadia.

“We can understand the frustrations of Governor Okorocha and the remnants of his e-rats, having realized that their efforts to derail the swearing-in of His Excellency, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha and Hon (Engr) Gerald Irona as Imo State Governor and Deputy Governor respectively have failed woefully.”

Ihedioha, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had polled 273, 404 votes to beat his closest rival, Uche Nwosu of the Action Alliance (AA).

Nwosu, Okorocha’s son-in-law and his preferred candidate, had lost out in his bid to secure the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite efforts of the governor.

Following his failure to secure the APC’s ticket, Nwosu had dumped the ruling party for the AA.

Germany Spends 23 Billion Euros On Refugees

Germany spent a record 23 billion euros ($25.65 billion) last year on helping to integrate more than one million refugees and fighting the root causes of migration abroad, a government document seen by Reuters showed on Monday.

That marks an increase of nearly 11 percent on the 20.8 billion euros that Germany spent the previous year, the document prepared by the Finance Ministry showed Reuters reported.

Chancellor Angela Merkel has repeatedly defended her 2015 decision to leave German borders open to hundreds of thousands of war refugees, mainly from Muslim countries, as a humanitarian necessity but has since vowed to prevent a repeat of such mass migration by tackling its causes.

The government spent a total of 7.9 billion euros in 2018 on measures aimed at keeping migrants outside the European Union and improving living conditions in their home countries a 16 percent increase compared with 2017.

Germany’s 16 states, which are mainly in charge of housing and integrating the arrivals from countries such as Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, received 7.5 billion euros from the federal government last year, according to the report. This marked an increase of 14 percent on the year.

Alice Weidel, parliamentary leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), criticized Merkel’s government for spending billions on refugees, saying: “This is a costly welcome party at the expense of citizens.”

Only those who support islamisation agenda will criticise Obasanjo, Fani-Kayode tells Lamido

A former Minister of Aviation , Femi Fani – Kayode , has knocked a former Governor of Jigawa State , Sule Lamido , for criticising former President Olusegun Obasanjo who had warned that Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram are out to ‘ Fulanise ’ West Africa and Islamise Africa .

Obasanjo had, on Saturday, lamented the deadly activities of Boko Haram and herdsmen in the country, saying the challenges had grown beyond what Nigeria alone could tackle .

He said , “ It is no longer an issue of a lack of education and employment for our youths in Nigeria , which it began as ; it is now West African ‘ Fulanisation, ’ African Islamisation and global organised crimes of human trafficking , money laundering , drug trafficking , gun trafficking , illegal mining and regime change . ”

But Lamido , in a statement on Sunday , advised Obasanjo against transforming himself into “ a religious and ethnic bigot ” because of his disappointment with the current administration .

The ex – governor called on the former president to withdraw the statement .
Lamido said , “ If it were said at a non -religious venue to a non – religious audience , maybe it might have been more tolerable. Please , sir , don ’ t let your disappointment with sitting president turn you into a bigot .

“ You must not abandon the national stage. The cracks along the various divides in our national cohesion are already turning into huge gorges . ”

Fani – Kayode , in a counter statement , however , said Obasanjo had done more for the core North , “ including Lamido ’ s Fulani tribe ” than any other president .
According to the former minister , Obasanjo remains the only politically active southern or Middle Belt leader that understands what is really going on , the grave danger that Nigerians are in and what lies ahead .

He added , “ I hear one or two people, like Sule Lamido , are not too happy with what OBJ said and have called him out for saying it. That is sad and unfortunate because Obasanjo has done more for the core North , Lamido ’ s Fulani tribe and Nigerian unity than any other former president or head of state in our history.

“ He also fought in a civil war to keep the country together . For anybody from the core North to call him names for speaking the truth and baring his mind over what is unfolding in Nigeria today , it tells you how blinded by power , insensitive and callous some of these people are .

“ It is only those that subscribe to the Fulanisation and Islamisation agenda that will criticise or oppose Obasanjo ’ s observation and describe him as a ‘ bigot ’ for making them. ”

Tension in Zaria over electricity bills

Thousands of Zaria residents at the weekend, protested against what they called `fraud, intimidation and over billing of consumers by Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) and threatened legal action against the company.

Addressing newsmen in Zaria, Dr. Ibrahim Mustafa, said the protest and court action became necessary following issuance of notice letter recently issued to the consumers by the company within Zaria metropolis.

According to Mustafa, “We have received a notice from the company titled: Demand Letter and Notice of withdrawal of electricity supply to your Premises which is intimidating, and an attempt to defraud the consumers’’.

Mustafa who quoted the notice letter said the notice was part of the continuous exploitation and intimidating attitude of the company to the teaming consumers in Zaria.

He read the said notice as; “Notice is hereby given that in accordance with provisions of regulations 5(1), (a)-(f) of National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Order on connection and disconnection procedure of 2007, the supply of electricity to your premises at A/C/-shall be withdrawn within 10 days from date of services of this notice. This is following your failure and refusal to pay the outstaying arrears’’.

The letter added that, “Furthermore, take notice that failure to pay the outstanding amount as quoted above within this period of this notice shall not only result in the withdrawal of electricity services but as well as entitled the company to commence recovery proceedings against you in a Court of Competent jurisdiction without further notice or warning to you’’.

The Company notice was signed by an employee on behalf of the management and copied to Police DPOs, Community leaders and local government chairpersons.

Mustafa argued that, there has never been a reliable measurement of electricity consumption by the customers as the company only charged by over estimation sometimes writes with biro the amount they want a consumer to pay.

“No meter to measure our consumption, we have requested severelly for a Pre –paid Meter yet we could not get, but the company is asking us pay millions of Naira outstanding debt. This is a clear case of fraud, and cheating which cannot be found anywhere in the world except in Nigeria’’.

According to him, Zaria’s experience is worst supply of electricity more than other cities in Nigeria which makes other business impossible to yield any positive profits.

“In fact some places in Zaria spend two to three days without electricity, yet the company brings a bill to you, which means we are paying for a product not consumed? It is a fraud indeed.’’ He said.

The spokesman however said, the residents have concluded arrangement with team of lawyers to sue the company for defrauding and intimidation, as well resolved not make any further payment of any outstanding debt until the company produces meters for them.

He expressed disappointment with the President Muhammadu Buhari for his inability to reverse the privatization of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) by Jonnathan administrations before clinching power in 2015.

He therefore appealed to Nigerians to continue protesting against the attitude of electricity Distribution Companies who make life difficult for Nigerian citizens.

Reacting, the Company’s Commercial Manager in Zaria, Alhaji Kabiru Abdulsalam, said the company was not out to punish any customer with the notice, but to spur them to pay their outstanding bills.
According to him, “let me tell those that are complaining about the notice letter we issued that the notice was meant to ginger customers to pay all outstanding bill, not to punish anybody, despite the NERC law on connection and disconnection of electricity Supply’’.

He said recent investigations by the company in Zaria revealed that only 40 per cent of consumers are trying to pay their outstanding debt while remaining 60 are still reluctant. Therefore, we must find ways to recover our money. Most of the debts are owed by customers on estimation bill which we inherited from former PHCN.’’

On meter, the Commercial Manager said, the federal government had recently made a position on it by promising to provide the meters to the customers soon.

“It is also important to note that, we are in the business of distributing electricity receive from suppliers, so we cannot speak on why we are not getting electricity in Zaria. I think it is a general problem’’. He explained.

FG increases NYSC allowance

The Federal Government has increased the monthly allowance of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to 30,000.

Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja during a press conference where she added that the total sum of N649.434 billion was verified by the ministry as the outstanding balance to be refunded to the state governments.”

She, however, noted that the Federal Government is still working out modalities before the implementation of the new allowance for corps members.

She said, “The other aspect that should be clear is that there is an increase for the NYSC as well because NYSC, by its Act, is designed that they earn the minimum wage.”

“So, NYSC allowance also has to increase to N30, 000. So, I cannot give you projections right now because the negotiations are not yet concluded.
