Edo People Democratic Party wants Hon Patrick Obahiagbon disqualified from contesting Edo South Senatorial seat

The state publicity secretary of the People Democratic Party Chris Nehikhare addressing news men in Benin City today 29the January, 2019 said it became pertinent that the party address press because of the numerous phone calls asking if they file a suit again Hon Patrick Obahiagbon the candidate of All Progresive Congress contesting the Senatorial seat of Edo South over false age declaration.

At this juncture, I wish to confirm that the Peoples Democratic Party has asked the Federal High Court in Benin City to disqualify Mr Patrick Obahiagbon, who is the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, from contesting the Edo south senatorial election scheduled for 16th February 2019.

The party’s prayer is contained in suit No. FHC/B/CS/5/19, brought before the court and dated 23rd January 2019, with Mr Obahiagbon and the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, as 1st and 2nd defendants.

Our grounds for asking the court to disqualify Mr Patrick Obahiagbon is that he supplied false information on oath to INEC.

We are relying on two sets of sworn affidavits of support of personal particulars which Mr Obahiagbon submitted to INEC in 2007, with his date of birth as 12th April 1960 and in 2018 where his date of birth is 12th April 1964.

In the Sworn affidavit specifying the Educational institutions that he attended with dates for the 2007 election, Mr. Obahiagbon also claimed to have left primary school the year he was born as he said he attended Our Lady of Lords Nursery School, Sapele from 1964 (the year he claimed as his date of birth in 2018) and graduated in 1970.

In addition, based on the same 2007 documents, we noticed also that Mr Obahiagbon paraded a purported NYSC certificate of National Service Number NYSC/OD/LAW/88/56766 to show that he completed the service year from 18th September 1988 to 17th September 1989, which was issued in September 1989. The NYSC certificate is however absent in his 2018 documents to INEC.

Why has he refused to submit this NYSC certificate in 2018?

Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu is the serving minister of Communications from Oyo State, Nigeria. His party chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, who incidentally is Mr. Obahiagbon’s Chairman, disqualified him from contesting for the office of governor of Oyo State because he did not partake in the mandatory NYSC program.

According to the constitution, it is a criminal offense for a Nigerian who graduated before the age of 30 not to participate in the NYSC program.

Corruption is not only when one steals. Aiding, abetting and covering up a crime is the worst type of corruption!

We call on all Nigerians to be vigilant.

Urohi people new king, check out his name

The Ruler ‘Onojie’ in Esan Tradition.
-The Coronation of the Onojie of Urohi by Prince Kelly O. Udebhulu.

Today, 26 day of January, 2019, the Kingdom of Urohi in Esan west local government of Edo state, Nigeria, trado-politically witnessed the coronation and presentation of Staff of Office by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, to the new king, popularly known as “Onojie” in Esan dialect and tradition.

Urohi Kingdom has common boundaries with Ekpoma on the North, Ujiogba on the South-East both in Esan west local government, Uhi/ Ugieghudu on the South both in Uhumwode local government of Edo state. Politically, Urohi is ward 8 in Esan west local government of Edo central senatorial district of Edo state. Around twelve kilometers away from Ekpoma, the headquarter of Esan west local government.

An Onojie or traditional ruler according to Esan tradition is defined as an individual who, by virtue of his ancestry, occupies a ‘sacred stool’ of a community and this person will be selected to it in accordance with the traditions and customs of the Esan community. Simply put, he is the traditional leader of a specific traditional community across Esanland who exercises authority over a number of inhabitants of the area in accordance with customary law of a defined jurisdiction.

According to the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Law as enacted on the 24 day of August, 1979; the Law in its preliminary sections defined a Traditional Ruler as “the traditional head of an ethnic unit or clan who is for the time being the holder of the highest traditional authority within the ethnic unit or clan and whose title is recognized as a traditional ruler by the Government of the state”.

Importantly, to ascend to the throne, this individual must be the heir apparent to the throne being the Crown Prince who is traditionally the first biological male child of the present Onojie whose by nature call, joins his ancestor. Simply put, the Onojie as the ruler of the community derives his traditional position by right of being the first son in the royal lineage. The Onojie’s stool is inherited through kinship ties according to the Esan tradition. It doesn’t deviate away from the kingship’s lineage, if it happens, it is an extraordinary circumstance.

This person has traditional authority over the people who live in that community. He regulates the social behaviour within the community that he has control over. An onojie is not in control of service delivery as it is the local government’s responsibility.

However, an Onojie performs a wide range of functions for his community, ranging from providing safety and security, safeguarding tribal sovereignty, allocating and distributing land and settling land disputes, providing spiritual leadership and the administration of justice among his people.

Conclusively, Urohi Kingdom thanks everyone that contributed to the success of this great coronation ceremony and would remain grateful to you all.

Thank you.

In a press conference by the party executives, they also accused her of not consulting with them before announcing her withdrawal from the race and never been “serious” with the campaign.

The party also added that they are stil in the race and their party, the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (APCN) has declared it’s support for the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress APC.

“If you will observe, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, is the only presidential candidate who was so militant in her campaign without any tangible thing on the ground to indicate any seriousness in the prosecution of her campaign. No campaign secretariat, billboard or great commitment on the ground to indicate any seriousness.

“It is on this ground that the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria ACPN is withdrawing support for her presidential aspiration and endorsing the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari to take Nigeria to the next level.

“We also seek this medium to I form our former presidential candidate Dr Ezekwesili to return to the party all the property in her possession especially the various donations that she has been receiving from all over the world. Whatever she had received belongs to the party and we must render account to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC. So, it is mandatory. We are aware of all the accounts she and her aides had opened for this election to which donations were made”, the party declared.
