Amechi: FG begins construction of Lagos-Kano railway

After months on break due to the COVID-19 induced lock-down, the Federal Government on recently announced it will commence construction work on the Kano-Kaduna section of the Lagos to Kano rail line.

According to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, workers were deployed to site to begin construction on the multi-billion naira rail project on Wednesday. Amaechi, who disclosed this in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle, also posted pictures of contractors and trucks on the project site.The minister said, “On site, contractors move in for the commencement of the Kano-Kaduna section of the Lagos-Kano rail line.”

‘Why I Dethroned Sanusi’ Ganduje Reveals

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has revealed that he dethroned Sanusi Lamido Sanusi due to the fact that the disposed Emir failed agree with the government in the reforms of the Kano traditional system.

Ganduje , who spoke during a media forum to mark Democracy Day, said he has no regrets or whatsoever in his action taken against the former CBN Governor.

He as well described the creation of four additional emirates in the state as one of his major achievements, which had impacted positively on the lives of the people and even development of the state .

According to him , Sanusi lost his position as the Emir of Kano, following his refusal to be part of the reforms in the traditional system , which was conceived in the best interest of Kano people.

On why the reformation process has been slow even after disposing the Emir. He said that some legal issues instituted by Sanusi and some Kano elders loyal to him has slowed down the speed at which the traditional reforms would have been concluded .

He however, stated that currently, there is no legal issue as regards to reforms of traditional system in the state.

Kano Government Opens Viewing Centers As Europe’s Major Leagues Resume

Kano Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has ordered the reopening of football viewing centres in the state as major leagues across Europe resume.

Ganduje announced the decision when the leadership of Soccer Viewing Centres Association, Kano State chapter, paid him a courtesy call at his office, on Friday.

The association urged the governor to ease the lockdown order for the Centres.

The governor, who granted the request, also donated Forty Thousand (40,000) face masks for distribution at viewing centres in the state.

He urged them that as they gather youth in their viewing centres, they must make sure that they use it as a platform to create awareness among them on ways to help tame the pandemic.

The state chairman of the association, Sharu Rabi’u Ahlan commended governor Ganduje’s effort in curtailing the spread of the virus in the state and assured the government that all the guidelines given in line with the pandemic would be followed dutifully.

Corruption Allegation: Court Dismisses Sanusi Case, Favours Ganduje

Kano Federal High Court has dismissed a case filed by the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, seeking to stop investigation over alleged racketeering of landed property of the Kano Emirate Council.

Sanusi, in an ex parte motion, sought the court to stop the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) from investigating him.

The suit also sought an order restraining the PCACC Chairman, Mr. Muhyi Rimingado, Attorney-General of Kano State and Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje from investigating him.

But, the presiding Judge, Justice Lewis Allagoa, in a ruling, said that the commission did not violate the right of the emir by investigating the allegations against him.

Allagoa, thereafter, dismissed the case, adding that the fundamental human right of Sanusi was not infringed.

Sanusi is being investigated by PCACC over alleged N2.2 billion land racketeering at Gandun Sarki area of Kano.

Other Kano Emirate Council members under investigation are Sarki Ibrahim, the Makaman of Kano and Shehu Dankadai, the Sarkin Shanun Kano.

Recall that court had sometime in February ordered PCACC to stop its investigation on the emir and ordered the parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the matter

[Video] Kano Distances Self from Video on Isolation Centre

The Government of Kano State has distanced its from a viral video showing that the Sani Abacha Stadium Isolation Centre has been ‘abandoned’.

In a statement from an official of the State Government, the state expressed displeasure in the manner that the video of the site of the Isolation Center was covered. The official claimed that the person who covered the site of the Isolation Center deliberately avoided filming the site workers at the site showing that the center was still under construction.
