[Video] Kano Distances Self from Video on Isolation Centre

The Government of Kano State has distanced its from a viral video showing that the Sani Abacha Stadium Isolation Centre has been ‘abandoned’.

In a statement from an official of the State Government, the state expressed displeasure in the manner that the video of the site of the Isolation Center was covered. The official claimed that the person who covered the site of the Isolation Center deliberately avoided filming the site workers at the site showing that the center was still under construction.

COVID-19: Kano allows Juma’at, sallah prayers

Kano State Government on Monday announced it will relax the lockdown to allow for Juma’at and Eid prayers.

Recall that the Chairman, Presidential Task Force(PTF) on COVID-19, Mr Boss Mustapha, had made public the intentions of the Federal Government to extend the lockdown on Kano at the daily briefing of the committee in Abuja.

In a swift reaction to the position of the PTF Chairman, the Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Media, Salihu Yakasai, on Monday, disclosed the decision of the Kano State Government to relax the lockdown shortly after a meeting held between the governor and religious leaders in the state.

The statement said, “Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has accepted and approved recommendations by a selection of 30 Islamic scholars in Kano for the government to allow Friday prayers to hold as well as Eid prayers.

“The governor gave the directive after a lengthy consultation, with the Islamic scholars, including other government officials at the Government House.

“This means that the relaxation of the lockdown on Mondays and Thursdays will continue, but Friday prayers will also be allowed as well as Eid prayers, but traditional Eid celebrations in the state will not be allowed.

“The Imams have also been directed to ensure that everyone wears a face mask, as well as the use of sanitizers and washing of hands. They should also observe spacing as well as making brief sermon and observing social distancing (sic).

 “The state government has also inaugurated a committee that will oversee the distribution of hand sanitizers, sanitation equipment, as well as face masks, among others to Imams of Friday mosques in the state.’’

Ganduje Reviews Lockdown, Okays Eid-Prayers

Kano State Government has reviewed the lockdown imposed by the Federal Government and extended on Monday by two weeks as prevention for the spread of coronavirus.

Special Adviser on Media to the governor Salihu Tanko Yakasai said after a meeting between the governor and religious leaders in the state: “Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has accepted and approved recommendations by a selection of 30 Islamic scholars in Kano for the Government to allow Friday Prayers to hold as well as Eid Prayers, ‘’said the statement.

‘’The Governor gave this directive after a lengthy consultation with the Islamic Scholars and other government officials at Africa House, in the Government House.’’

The statement added: “This means that the relaxation of the lockdown on the days of Monday and Thursday will continue, but Friday prayers will also be allowed as well as Eid Prayers, but traditional Eid celebrations in the State will not be allowed.’’

Emir of Kano Loses Uncle

The Dan Iyan of Kano who is the district head of Dawakin kudu, Yusuf Bayero, has died in the early hours of Sunday after a protracted illness.

A source in the Kano emirate confirmed his death.

This news was confirmed by member of the Emirate.

Yusuf is a younger brother to late emir of Kano, Ado Bayero and an uncle to current emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero.

The late Dan Iyan Kano had held various positions with the then Kano Native Authority (NA) and he was a onetime parliamentary secretary in charge of Kaduna affairs.

Yusuf was turbaned in 1993 as Dan Iyan Kano by the the late emir of Kano Ado Bayero.

Yusuf has been buried in Kano state according to Islamic rites.
