Reps Move To Review Chinese Loan Agreements

The House of Representatives has said it would review all loan agreements and conditions signed by the Federal Government.

The Vice- Chairman of the House Committee on Aid , Loans and Debt Management , Mr Chris Azubogu, stated this in an interview with newsmen.

He said the House generally is concerned about the loan agreement and they are reviewing all the terms and conditions to know what they are like . He added that the reviewing about all loans and agreements .

Recall that the committee raised the alarm over loan agreements Nigeria signed with China . The lawmakers said the agreement might force Nigeria to concede its sovereignty to the Asian country if the loans were not paid back .

However, the Minister of Transportation , Rotimi Amaechi, who appeared before the committee, asked the lawmakers to stop the investigation into the Chinese loans.

He said the probe would send a wrong signal to China , which could stop the loans , thereby thwarting the nation’ s rail projects .

A member of the Treaties , Protocols and Agreements, who spoke on condition of anonymity , stated that the lawmakers would not back down on the probe .

Trump Fears Tiktok Might Be Tool For Chinese Intelligence, Moves To Ban App Soon

Donald Trump, President of United States has raised fear over the fast-growing social media app TikTok that it could be a tool for Chinese intelligence and might be considering barring the app in United States.

Trump speaking said while being questioned that as far as TikTok is concerned, the government is banning it from the United States.

He added that he would take action as soon as Saturday using emergency economic power or an executive order.

Trump’s move comes following a review by the Committee on Foreign Investment (CFIUS) in the United States, which investigates deals affecting US national security.

US officials and lawmakers in recent weeks have voiced fears of the wildly popular video platform being used by Beijing for nefarious purposes, but the company has denied any links to the Chinese government.

However, TikTok declined to comment on the reports of the forced sales, saying only: “We are confident in the long-term success of TikTok.

EU Excludes Nigerians, Americans, Others From Entering Europe As It Reopens Border In July

European Union Commission has released a list of 54 countries that qualified for travels into Europe as the union opens its borders that were shut to contain the spread of COVID- 19 .

According to the list Nigeria, America, Brazil, Qatar, Russia and many other countries have been excluded from the list of countries whose travellers could be received into Europe when the borders reopen on July 1 .

The commission said that citizens of the excluded countries would only be able to enter Europe at a later date when the epidemiological situation in these countries improves .

The countries from which travellers are permitted to enter Europe are listed as Albania , Algeria, Andorra , Angola , Australia , Bahamas , Bhutan , Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canada .

Others listed are China , Costa Rica , Cuba, Democratic People’ s Republic of Korea , Dominica , Egypt , Ethiopia , Georgia, Guyana, India, Indonesia , Jamaica , Japan , Kazakhstan , Kosovo , Lebanon and Mauritius .

More countries include Monaco , Mongolia , Montenegro , Morocco , Mozambique, Myanmar , Namibia , New Zealand , Nicaragua , Palau , Paraguay , Rwanda , Saint Lucia , Serbia, South Korea , Tajikistan , Thailand, Tunisia , Turkey , Turkmenistan , Uganda, Ukraine , Uruguay , Uzbekistan , Vatican City , Venezuela , Vietnam and Zambia.

The EU Commission spokesman , Eric Mamer , said the union had the right to choose who would enter its borders .

On June 11 , the commission presented its recommendation on the reopening of internal Schengen borders on June 15 , so that Europeans could travel within the borderless area freely, just as they did pre – pandemic .

America Backs Down, Allows Chinese Airlines Landing Permit

The United States of America government has backed down from a ban threat issued to Chinese airlines saying the airlines will now be given limited of flights to the U.S

The decision came one day after China appeared to open the door to U.S. carriers United Airlines and Delta Air Lines resuming one flight per week each into the country.

The Transportation Department said it will let Chinese passenger airlines fly a combined total of two round-trip flights per week between the U.S. and China, which it said would equal the number of flights that China’s aviation authority will allow for U.S. carriers.

Delta praised the U.S. government for trying to “ensure fairness and access to China.” United said it was reviewing the matter.

Neither said whether the latest development in the dispute between the two countries would affect their plans. Both had hoped to offer more flights.

The Transportation Department said it might further ease restrictions if China does the same. Officials are concerned, however, about conditions China is imposing that could affect whether U.S. airlines resume their flights.

Those requirements include taking temperatures of all passengers in mid-flight and suspending an airline’s future flights if five or more passengers test positive for the coronavirus after arriving in China.

China’s embassy in Washington did not respond to messages seeking comment.

The dispute between Washington and Beijing over airline service has been building for weeks and is part of broader trade and diplomatic tension between the world’s two biggest economies.
