Edo and Ondo Elections: UK will take action against politicians who cause violence
The United Kingdom has said it will prosecute Nigerian politicians, who cause violence in the Edo and Ondo States governorship elections.
This declaration was contained in a statement by the British High Commission on Wednesday. The Commission says it does not support any form of election-related violence and would take actions to punish politician involved in acts of violent during the elections.
The Commission says, it will take actions similar to what it did during the 2019 Elections. Such actions could include restricting travel access to the UK, and even access to assets based in the UK owned by politician who perpeterate violence.
The Commission says its is watching proceedings in Edo and Ondo states.
On building capabilities for a peaceful election, the Commission it will continue to provide technical and financial support to the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to enable it discharge its responsibilities.
