Edo Elections: IGP deploys 31,000 policemen

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has announced that about 31,000 personnel will be on duty during the governorship election in Edo State.

Thej IGP made this announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for September 19.

He posited that the police is aware of the growing tension and tendency for violence that had characterised political campaigns ahead of the election.

He added that the stakeholders meeting was a veritable platform to enable various stakeholders in the electioneering process to interact with the police with a view to ensuring a smooth election.

He noted that for the first time, inter-agencies in the state had developed a code of conduct for security personnel that would be deployed for election duties.
