Death Sentence: Falana petitions African Commission to save Kano singer

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN), Femi Falana has taken the death sentence ruling on Kano singer Sharif Yahya Sharif to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights in Banjul, The Gambia.

In his petition, the SAN is asking for the exercise of the Commission’s mandates and authority under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and pursuant to the commission’s order 100(1) of the commission’s Rules of Procedure, 2020, to stop the execution of the death sentence.

Days after the petition was submitted, the Chairperson of the African Commission, Solomon Ayele Dersoo, has confirmed that the commission is now considering the petition.
