Goje suspends senate presidency ambition
Danjuma Goje, senator representing Gombe central, has suspended his bid for the Presidency of the 9th Senate .
He made this disclosure while addressing the media. This decision had followed a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, said Goje, a contender for the race, backed out to endorse Ahmad Lawan, the majority leader.
El-Rufai was seen surrounded by Lawan, Goje and Ìta Enang, senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters.
Both had met with the president earlier in the day as a result of the rift in the ruling party over the endorsement of Lawan.
Senator Lawan, who is from Yobe, had been endorsed by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as well as the president but that did not stop two of his colleagues in the north-east – Ali Ndume and Goje – from joining the race.
