Zamfara Residents Besiege Market For Anti-bullet Charms As 40 Killed In Fresh Attacks

Residents from Tsafe local government of Zamfara state have been trooping in droves to a market in nearby Tsauni village to purchase amulets ‘with spiritual powers that can make gun bullets ineffective’ on victims of bandits attacks.
The residents, who have apparently lost faith in the ability of Nigeria’s security agencies to protect them from incessant killings across many parts of the state were seen queuing up in their hundreds.
A caption on two photographs obtained by Isa Sanusi, a reporter with the Hausa service of the BBC, said the village where the charms were sold, was located about 35 kilometers from Tsafe.

Meanwhile, the armed bandits were said to have launched fresh attacks in a least three communities in Shinkafi local goverment area of the state, killing at least 40 people.
The assailants were said to have raided Kurya, Kursasa and Gidan Achali communities and fired gunshots at defenseless villages.
“At Gidan Achali community alone, over 20 people were massacred. And at Kursasa community, 10 people were killed while at Kurya, 13 persons were reported dead,” an official of Shinkafi LGA told journalists, asking not to named.
He said the “number of people killed at Gidan Achali community is terrible because the high number of casualties in the area is worrisome.”, adding that the attacks moved around the villages unchallenged by security forces.
“It is just like there is no constituted authority in Zamfara State. Nobody cares about our lives.
“We have now become easy prey for bandits in Shinkafi,” he said.
However, Zamfara police spokesperson, Mohammed Shehu, said only 10 people were killed at an onion farm in Kursasa community.
He said security personnel have been mobilised to the area.
